Traveling the Kentucky Bourbon Trail

Kentucky bourbon trail

Bourbon barrels traveling the rails to the warehouse for bourbon-making magic!

On a recent visit to Louisville, KY, we traveled along the bourbon trail. Our first stop was the Woodford Reserve Distillery Tour ($7 per person).

The sound of bourbon cooking …

The sound of bourbon being bottled …

The sound of bourbon making magic (shh!) …

From there, we traveled up 1695/McCracken Pike, past the abandoned Old Taylor Distillery, to the Bourbon Trace Distillery in Frankfort. We arrived too late for the scheduled tours (free), but tour guide, Fred, was happy to take us on a quick tour to the warehouse and the bottling building.

We all enjoyed the tour and tasting experience at Buffalo Trace best. Fred was laid back and fun, we got to try four different stills plus their amazing Bourbon Cream (when mixed with rootbeer makes an amazing rootbeer float).

The tasting experience at Buffalo Trace Distillery – thumbs up!

We also had lunch at the Casa Fiesta, where we saw these cool license plate signs.
