Because one of our band members is in the family, we all got to stay at the Water’s Edge Retreat B&B this past weekend. It’s run by the Hermes family, owners Tim & Beth and son Dave will be on hand this summer to welcome guests to their lovely Victorian-style home on the eastern edge of Kelley’s Island, facing Lake Erie (map).
It wasn’t quite yet open for business but I know that they are all wonderful hosts … and more importantly, wonderful cooks!
They have six gorgeously decorated rooms, each with their own bath, and some with jazcuzzis and an extra bed or two for families. Read these raving reviews on TripAdvisor.
The B&B is on the southern edge of the island, away from the downtown area, so it’s nice and relaxing. There’s a large wraparound porch facing the lake, an adorable gazebo out front and an orchard.
While you can bring a car to Kelley’s Island, it’s best explored on bike or golf cart, and both are available from the B&B or can be rented elsewhere on the island.
(Oh, and no, I didn’t name my blog after them. I bought my domain name before I met the Hermes family and knew of the B&B. It must be karma!)
Find out how to get to the islands here. And find out about a few more places to stay up this way here.
